Inspirational Poems

It is strange that I should be writing poems and even stranger to be talking about inspirational poems. At secondary school I found the subject of poetry far less than inspiring. It was a drag!

Coupled with a teacher that seemed to be out to cut off my neck, one could hardly blame me for feeling like my stomach was doing summersaults whenever it was time for English literature class.

I think she could see the terror on my face because hardly a lesson went by without her asking me what the meaning of all those 15th century poems was. My favorite answer was: “..uhm.” This was always followed by a long, embarrassing silence during which any chances of ever impressing any girl in class were dashed as I tried to look very thoughtful.

inspirational poems - the poor success

The true measure of success,
Some seem to think,
Is how fat one’s pocket is:
But such a view, it would seem,
Would make most people failures.

Success is achieving what one sets out to do:
It is seeing your plans through,

So if you set out to be poor
And have not a dime on your person:
Congratulations to you,
Success is truly yours!
inspirational poems - enjoy the moment

Enjoy the moment–
Yesterday is gone,
Never to be experienced again;
Tomorrow is uncertain,
A candle that burns unseen.
The present alone can be lived:
Do not seek to borrow from yesterday’s joy,
Nor entrust your happiness to tomorrow’s hands.

inspirational poems - search for meaning

Everyday we struggle
To struggle another day
Not knowing the way
Or what is of importance-
The substance of our empty existence.

Yet few yearn to find the meaning to the puzzle,
The masses are content to to fit pieces together
Whose collective image they know not.
