Being a Parent Can Be Lucrative

Yes, you read that right. Being a parent is potentially a very lucrative business. But how do you turn all that knowledge, passion and experience into dollars?

Before I go any further let me just make a simple illustration concerning this. According the Bureau of Labor Statistics a housewife's labor is worth more than $79,000 per year. That means if your average housewife had to be paid for the things she does on a daily basis she would earn more than $79,000 a year.

That is just staggering and while a housewife does not always necessarily equate to a parent that just goes to show you how much value there is in activities we often take for granted.

Take, for example, the parent who is able to make their child sleep through the night at 3 months of age using simple techniques that they have learned themselves or that have been passed on to them. How much value do you think all those working parents who wake up three or four times a night and spend the day addicted to coffee just to stay awake at the office would place on that?

Or the parent that has the eating and bedtime routine nicely sorted out through trial and error. How much value would the parent that absolutely dreads meal times and bed time because they are worse than a World War place on that?

You are probably getting the picture. There is a lot about parenting that we just take for granted. We either assume everybody knows it or we assume that there is no monetary value to it.

There are people that have realized the value of their knowledge and experiences and found a way to take advantage of this and get paid in the process, sometimes huge amounts of money. Book authors are a good example.

My wife bought a book about childbearing the natural way and it has proven to have been a very good buy. Someone simply packaged their knowledge in a manner that others could find useful and in the process they made themselves some money.

There was another book she bought about "training" an infant with regards to meals, sleep and so on that has also proven to be extremely helpful.

That is one of the great things about realizing the value of your knowledge and experience as a parent - that you can help other people to make their lives and those of their children better simply by sharing what you know.

I realize though that the examples I have given are not entirely that good because not all of us are professional authors. The prospect of writing a book and publishing it is just too daunting for most people and it sometimes takes ages to get it done.

Is there an easier way? The answer is yes. It's called the internet. I love the internet for one simple reason. It is the one place where anyone with determination and passion can easily make a mark and achieve lasting success. It is a level playing field for the professional and the newbie.

There are various ways you can share your knowledge and passion for parenting and make money on the internet. Blogging is one such example. Many people also share their passion through forums and social networks.

But the best way to have full control, share your experience in style and gain recognition is by having your own website. What's that you say? You don't have any technical skills to build a website. No problem. There are plenty of cut and paste website building tools around.

If you know how to use Microsoft Word, you can build your own website. It's that simple these days. What's more, a website can be up running in a matter of hours or just one or two days. It's then simply a matter of working at it and building it up with great content such as your own personal experiences and stories as a parent over time.

Such a business model, of sharing your passion and experience for parenting on your own website makes sense really. After all you probably have a few free hours in the day when the kids are sleeping or just busy doing their own thing that you could easily dedicate to working on your online business.

But you do not have to be a stay at home mom or dad to do this either. Even if you do have a full time job you can do it in your spare time. Actually, if you think about it, what is more of a full time job than being a parent? Why not get paid doing it?
Start your online business and share your knowledge and experience in a lucrative way.
